As of February 21, 2025, we’re excited to celebrate Melissa Wiatrak’s incredible 21-year journey with Checkett, Pauly, Bay & Morgan! Over the years, Melissa’s dedication and expertise have had an immeasurable impact on our firm and our clients.
Melissa joined us on January 21, 2004, and has worn many hats since then, mastering each role with hard work and skill. For the past 20 years, she’s specialized as a bankruptcy paralegal, helping countless clients find relief and a fresh start.
Before joining us, Melissa worked as a litigation paralegal at Leggett & Platt, Inc. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Pittsburgh State University, which has helped her connect with clients and guide them toward achieving effective bankruptcy solutions.
Working alongside our experienced bankruptcy attorney, Mariann Morgan, Melissa’s compassion and knowledge have been a beacon of hope for those dealing with financial and debt-related challenges.
Reflecting on her career, Melissa shared that "it is a strong sense of accomplishment when you see someone realize their situation is going to improve, and they walk away feeling lighter. I have met so many interesting people throughout my career, both clients and professionals.”

Outside of work, Melissa is an active part of the Carthage community. She’s involved with the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage and her fitness community at Midwestern Built. When she’s not helping our clients or giving back to the community, she enjoys spending time with her husband and adult children.
